1-androsterone

Background

1-Androsterone is a type of chemical known as a prohormone. It is converted in the body to testosterone and other sex hormones.

Prohormones like 1-androsterone are included in products marketed to athletes and bodybuilders. They are designed to have effects similar to anabolic steroids. But there is little known about these chemicals and they might cause serious side effects.

People use 1-androsterone for athletic performance and other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Using 1-androsterone might also be unsafe.

Don't confuse 1-androsterone with androstenediol, androstenedione, 4-androsterone, androsterone, epiandrosterone and 19-nor-DHEA. These are not the same. 1-Androsterone is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
When taken by mouth: 1-Androsterone is possibly unsafe. It might cause liver and kidney damage and increase cholesterol.
