    Mechanism of action

The applicable part of water dropwort is the whole plant. Water dropwort contains isorhamnetin, persicarin, limonene, pulegone, germacrene D, beta-pinene, alpha-terpinolene, p-cymene, and other constituents, some of which are aromatic (14079,14080).
Preliminary research suggests persicarin might have hepatoprotective effects by blocking hepatic lipid peroxidation (14081).
Other preliminary research suggests water dropwort might have hypotensive, antiarrhythmic, anti-anaphylactic, and antidiabetic effects. It might also have activity against the hepatitis B virus, possibly inhibiting viral DNA polymerase and viral replication (14078).
